Potters Thanksgiving sail

Getting together with the Potters over the Thanksgiving weekend at Mission Bay. Nice folks. Friday the wind was mild. Michael came out for a sail with me. First time on the tiller for him.

Fun video of him as we exited the Bay onto the Ocean.

Saturday, the wind was lively. Good sailing in the Bay then followed the Potters out to the ocean. Good speed out of the ocean. Top speed was 7.4 knots. But we seemed to average between 6 and 7 knots. Even did 6 knots down wind coming back into the bay.

November 23, 2014

Great weather for the sail out of Oceanside today. Started off around 60 degrees and quickly went up to around 70 degree. The wind was mild and built to around 10 mph in the afternoon.
Some nice swells around 6'. Just rolling through to the shore, to the delight of all the surfers. More surfer out today than I have seen in quite a while. So, lots of folks enjoying the good waves.
The swells were not a problem, on the boat, as they were just rolling. No breaking seas. Some nice long tacks. Wind direction was good and made for a nice lazy sail day.

A little excitement after I set my sails and started to sail out of the harbor basin. I noticed that there was water in the sump, which is unusual. It turns out that I had not put the water intake plug back in after letting out the ballast on my last sail. I took off the cover to the ballast area and water was still coming in, spilling down to the sump area. I just put the plug back in. So no real damage done. Just a little water in the sump area. I did not have a cup, or anything to bale out the water. So the sail was completed with ballast and a little water sloshing around.

A video of the swells.
